About the firm

Built by practitioners. For practitioners.

Woodland-Robins was founded on a straightforward conviction: local government deserves advisors who have actually held the roles they are advising on.

Our philosophy

Most consulting firms assign junior staff to do the work while senior partners manage the relationship. We operate differently. When you retain Woodland-Robins, the senior practitioners you meet are the ones doing the work — every engagement, every time.

This is not a marketing claim. It is a structural commitment. We are a deliberately small firm, and we intend to stay that way. Our capacity is defined by the number of engagements our senior practitioners can give their full attention to — not by how many files we can open.

We work exclusively in the local government and public sector space in British Columbia. This focus is intentional. Deep expertise in a specific domain is more valuable than broad generalism, and our clients deserve advisors who understand the particular pressures, cultures, and constraints of BC local government.

The practitioners

Woodland-Robins is led by Patrick Robins and Shala Woodland — a husband and wife team with careers built across BC local government, the not-for-profit sector, and public administration.

What guides us

Directness

We tell clients what we actually think. Local government leaders face enough ambiguity — they deserve advisors who are clear and candid, even when the message is difficult.

Discretion

Executive search and organizational advisory involve sensitive information and confidential conversations. We treat every engagement with the discretion it deserves.

Depth over breadth

We work in one sector, in one province. This is a deliberate choice. Our value comes from knowing BC local government deeply — its networks, its culture, its particular challenges.

Long-term relationships

We measure success by whether our clients call us again — and whether they refer their peers. Transactional work is not what we are built for.

Ready to talk?

We welcome confidential conversations with local government leaders considering an engagement. There is no obligation — just a direct conversation with a senior practitioner.
